Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant became a pilot site for the total digitization of the UMMC

In line with the operational transformation program of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, which is part of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company holding company, full digitization is continuing.

The Public Relations Division of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant explains that digitization involves the introduction of SAP (an enterprise resource planning software), the creation of a model for technical maintenance and equipment repair, and the introduction of digital consultants. The new production process management system of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant will form a single digital space. Thanks to the digital transformation program in place until 2024, all the plant’s divisions and all industrial processes – from the purchase of materials, raw materials, and production planning to the production and marketing of finished products – will be brought together. The plant’s technological programs will interact with each other, exchange data, assign goals to employees, monitor their achievement, form technical reports.

According to Konstantin Bolshakov, head of the Information Systems and Automation Department of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, the initial plan was to equip the production lines with software to monitor technological processes online. We called in consultants, created a development department, set up the processes of interaction with the UMMC Transformation Director’s Department. This is how the company’s digital transformation program was created.

Soon every employee of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant will be able to order any kind of certificate directly from their smartphone, order any kind of attestation, consult their payslip, take holidays, change the size of personal protective equipment. The Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant has become a pilot site for the full digitization of the metallurgical holding. Later the UMMC’s Department of Director of Processing will be able to duplicate this project to all the other enterprises of the holding, taking into account their specific product characteristics.
