Kuzbassrazrezugol implements new methods of revegetation

Kuzbassrazrezugol” Coal Company (part of UMMC) applied the mechanized method of planting pine trees in the biological phase of revegetation of land altered by mining works.

The company reported on the results of the experiment carried out for the first time in 2019 in cooperation with Prokopyevsky logging specialists on the Tayezhnoe field of the Taldinsky open-cast coal mine. With the help of tree-planting machines 80 thousand Scots pine seedlings were planted on an area of 25 hectares. More than 80% of the seedlings took well.

“We are constantly looking for new forms of land reclamation. The latest results show that this new method of biological reclamation used by the coal company is extremely effective, – says the deputy director of the “Kuzbassrazrezugol” Coal Company for Ecology, Industrial Safety and Land Management, Vitaly Latokhin. – Based on this successful experience, the Company will continue to apply the mechanical planting method in 2020.  It is planned to recover 45 hectares of Taldinsky open-cast coal mine in this way”.

In total, the subsidiaries of the “Kuzbassrazrezugol” Coal Company Ltd. are planning to revegetate more than 140 hectares of land. The company will allocate more than 20 million rubles for this purpose.

At the same time KRU is taking care to reduce the harmful effect of its activity on the environment: for years the company has been carrying out a program of biological recuperation. For example, as part of this program last summer the company carried out an extensive campaign to stock the lakes with fish. The company’s specialists released 2 million fry into a natural basin connected to the Elovka River near the Kedrovsky open-cast coal mine. This place is very popular among the inhabitants of the town of Kemerovo and surrounding villages.

In total, in 2019 the “Kuzbassrazrezugol” company has earmarked more than 412 million rubles for environmental safety projects. The programme of reducing the burden on the environment also includes the switch to environmentally friendly fuels.
