The coal company “Kuzbassrazrezugol” has just opened its first natural reserve of the year 2021.

JSC “Coal Company “Kuzbassrazrezugol” (an enterprise of the UMMC raw materials complex) has become one of the creators of the first protected natural area in the Prokopievo municipality (in Kuzbass). The regional botanical reserve “The hills of Luchshevo village” was created with the financial support of the coal company. The project was implemented in cooperation with the scientists of the Kuzbass Botanical Garden at the Federal Research Center for Coal and Carbochemistry of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences and with the support of the Government of the Kemerovo – Kuzbass region.

This biological (botanical) reserve is a forest-steppe area with hills of 920,7 ha. On the territory of the reserve 227 plant species have been identified, five of which are included in the Red Lists of the Kemerovo region and the Russian Federation. These are Stipe zalesskii, Stipe pennaeus, Erythronium sibiricum, Cypripedium macranthos (or Venus’ hoof) and Adonis villosa.

“The hills of the village of Luchshevo” represents the 22nd protected natural area of the Kemerovo region and an ecological route will be drawn on the territory of the reserve. And this year, while Kuzbass celebrates its 300th anniversary, with the support of the coal company “Kuzbassrazrezugol” another protected natural area will be created – the botanical natural monument “Artyshta”.

“Kuzbassrazrezugol” has more than once proved that it is a “green” company, focused not only on compliance with existing environmental legislation, but also on the preservation of the biodiversity of the unique nature of Siberia, – comments the deputy director for ecology, industrial safety and spatial planning of Kuzbassrazrezugol, Vitaly Latokhin. – We will continue to provide help and assistance to the reserve “Hills of Luchshevo village”. We will also continue to cooperate with all parties who have a special interest in the preservation of the ecology of the region.

Every year “Kuzbassrazrezugol” allocates more than 500 million rubles to environmental protection measures.
