UMMC awarded for its CuPRO antimicrobial copper foil

UMMC was awarded the silver medal at the XXVII International Industrial Exhibition Metal-EXPO 2021 for the development of the technology of manufacturing antimicrobial copper foils from copper alloys with a sticky layer (registered trademark CuPRO).

The uniqueness of this achievement lies in the antimicrobial and bacteriostatic properties of CuPRO foils, as evidenced by the research of the Rospotrebnadzor Infectious Diseases Research Institute laboratory.

The copper foil can be applied to any material, and its antibacterial properties are long-lasting. The product has been in testing at the UMMC Technical University for over 5 months and the copper foils remain intact.

“The antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of copper and copper alloys slow down the metabolism of harmful particles, preventing their development and subsequent reproduction, and reduce the risk of spreading infection through contact surfaces, especially in places with high concentrations of people and where regular disinfection is difficult. No cases of transmission of the disease through contact surfaces among staff and students have been established”, – stated Viacheslav Lapin, Director of the Technical University UMMC.

In the context of the pandemic and the difficult epidemiological situation, the CuPRO paper is one more way to minimise the transmission of viruses and pathogenic micro-organisms and a very promising novelty.
